Do your links cost me anything extra?
No. Prices stay exactly the same whether you buy through a link here or go straight to the retailer. The small commission comes out of the retailer’s marketing budget, not your wallet.
Do you take money from brands to feature their gear?
No. There are no sponsored placements on this site. Every product we feature is chosen and purchased independently.
How do you decide what to recommend?
We look for gear we’d genuinely hand to a friend before their own trip. If something didn’t hold up, that goes in the review too — we’re not trying to sell you the highest-commission option, we’re trying to save you from buying the wrong thing twice.
Can an affiliate site’s reviews really be trusted?
That’s a fair question to ask of any site, including this one. Judge it by whether the reviews mention downsides, whether the same three products show up on every “best of” list on the internet, and whether the people writing have any documented history of actually using the gear. Trail Guides & Safety
How current are the trail guides?
Every guide lists a “last updated” date, and we revisit the most-read guides regularly to check trail conditions, pricing, and whether a gear pick has been discontinued or replaced.
Should I trust your permit and trail condition info over the official park website?
No — always verify with the official source (National Park Service or local land management agency) before you go. Conditions change fast: snow, closures, water levels, permit rules. We do our best to keep guides current, but the park’s own site is always the final word on the day you’re actually hiking.
What does “Difficulty” mean on your trail guides?
We rate trails as Easy, Moderate, or Strenuous based on distance, elevation gain, and technical terrain (exposure, scrambling, stream crossings). These ratings are a starting point, not a guarantee — your own fitness, experience, and the day’s weather conditions matter more than any label we put on a page.
Do you hike every trail you write about?
We’re building toward that being true of every guide on this site, and we’re upfront in each article about what’s based on firsthand experience versus careful research from official and community sources. Where we haven’t hiked a trail ourselves yet, we don’t fabricate specific details we don’t have.

What if a product you recommended doesn’t work for me?
Gear fit is personal — a boot that’s perfect for one hiker might not suit your foot shape or the terrain you hike most. That’s why every review includes specifics (fit, break-in time, conditions tested) instead of a blanket “buy this,” so you can judge fit for your own trips.
Why don’t you review certain premium brands?
Some brands (Patagonia is a well-known example) don’t sell through Amazon or standard affiliate channels, so we’re not able to link to them through our usual programs. We’d rather leave a gap than link to unofficial resellers we can’t vouch for.
How do you choose between a budget pick and a premium pick?
We try to show both wherever it’s relevant. Good gear doesn’t always mean expensive gear, and we say so — but we also won’t pretend a $20 option performs identically to a $200 one just to seem more relatable. We tell you what the price difference actually buys.
