About Wander Trail

Est. 2012

We Started This Because the Internet Wasn’t Giving Us Straight Answers

Wander Trail began the way most honest projects do: out of frustration. Every “best hiking boots” list online seemed to recommend the same three products, written by people who’d clearly never laced them up. Every gear review read like it was written to sell something, not to actually help someone standing in front of a wall of options, trying to figure out what they needed for their own trip.

So we started writing the guides we wished existed. Trail notes with real distances and real elevation gain, not vague “moderate difficulty” labels. Gear reviews that mention when something didn’t hold up, not just when it did. That’s still the whole mission today.

Who We Are

We’re a small team of hikers — some of us weekend warriors, some of us the kind of people who plan entire vacations around a single trailhead. What we have in common is a refusal to publish anything we wouldn’t hand to a friend before their own trip. If a boot runs narrow, we say so. If a trail is more crowded than the photos suggest, we say that too.

We’re not a massive editorial operation, and we’re not trying to be. We’d rather stay small and trustworthy than grow fast and generic.

How We Work

We buy independently. Every product featured on this site is purchased the same way you’d purchase it — no brand shipments, no “review copies” that quietly bias the writeup.

We say when something doesn’t hold up. A gear review isn’t a sales page. If the downside is real, it’s in the article.

We verify what we can, and we tell you when we haven’t. Trail conditions change — snow, closures, water levels. We list a “last updated” date on every guide and revisit the most-read ones regularly. Always cross-check permit rules and current conditions with the official park or land management source before you go; we link to those wherever we can.

We don’t take payment for placement. No brand pays to appear in a Gear Review or a Trail Guide. If we ever change that policy for any part of the site, we’ll disclose it clearly, not bury it in fine print.

By the Numbers

  • 100% — Independently Purchased
  • 1,200+ — Trail Miles Logged
  • 62 — Gear Items Field-Tested
  • Est. 2012 — Writing From the Trail

Questions or Feedback?

If something on this site helped you, we’d genuinely like to hear about it. And if something didn’t — a broken link, a product that didn’t match our review, a trail note that’s out of date — we want to hear about that even more. Reach us at team@wandertrail.co.
